The Hofstede model

The countries of Africa are characterized by having a similar situation on many occasions the model hospital model that seeks to understand cultures by specific indices and criteria in this post to be able to understand a little how is the culture of a Uganda we will use the indices of Kenya and Tanzania what are the countries that are close to this

Colombia's culture is characterized by being a country in which economic and power social inequity is accepted by the majority, as well as in the countries of Kenya and Tanzania, which means that in these countries, as most likely in Uganda, inequality is accepted by most people, that is to say that there is a great difference and a high percentage of it in the distance between power.

Regarding the indices of individualism vs. collectivism, the countries of Kenya and Tanzania, as well as Colombia, are characterized by being collectivist countries because they have low percentages in this index which means that they are societies that are characterized mainly by aid towards other people, for the concern for people who live in their community or around them rather than their own interests.

When we talk about the index of masculinity vs. femininity in the three countries, it is shown that there is a masculine culture which means that these societies are characterized much by achievement, heroism and material rewards rather than by cooperation, care for the weak and modesty. You can see these characteristics also in the role that women are given in business, especially in African countries.

Colombia, unlike Kenya and Tanzania, has high scores in the dimension of uncertainty avoidance, which means that it is characterized by maintaining rigid codes of beliefs and behaviors and its members are not tolerant of new and original or unorthodox ideas.

Colombia, Kenya, Tanzania and possibly Uganda, taking into account the similarities that it has with the aforementioned African countries, are countries that are characterized by high scores in terms of long-term orientation which means that they are societies that care about invest efforts and economy in new ideas for education in order to prepare for the future and to improve society, different from the societies that prefer to remain in the traditions and ideas that were used in ancient times.

Finally, regarding the indulgence versus restraint index, Colombia differs greatly from African countries, mainly because it has high scores in this dimension and what does it mean that it is a country in which gratification and pleasure of people are given importance. different from the African countries such as Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda in which the rules and laws are established to maintain a more restricted society more suppressed.

Lewis Models Uganda

Considering lewis' models, Uganda's culture, like many other countries in Africa, is a multi-active culture. This is mainly due to their capacity for personal transactions, their orientation to constantly relate to people in their community and their way of being outgoing.

Ugandans have many traditions and most of them are performed in conjunction with other people. Festivals, ceremonies and rituals are very common in their culture, ugandans are outgoing and talkative people who like dancing, music and tradition in general. Hospitality is also a characteristic that places them in multi-active cultures, they like human relationships and personal negotiations. It is a custom in Uganda at dinner time to sit on the rug to eat and he likes his guests and neighbours to accompany him at dinner.

Ugandan people as in other multi-active cultures have a tendency to perform different tasks at the same time which would be an advantage when coming to study here in barranquilla, however a problem that could have a ugandan person coming to study here could be having to work with women because although they are a hospitable culture machismo is a representative feature of this country. Another difficulty could be the type of conversation in both places people are loquacious but the subjects that can or cannot be discussed are different.

Gender roles un Uganda

Gender roles are a controversial issue in many cultures, one of these is precisely Uganda where the roles that men and women have to play are very different. The role of women is one of submission and that of men of dominance, in the culture of Uganda gender roles do not allow equality in rights for all people, some of the questions that call my attention in this regard are:

What is the role of women in relationships?

How should women dress?

How are LGBT people viewed?

Gender roles cultural differences between Colombia and Uganda

When speaking of gender role stereotypes in the different existing cultures one finds a variety of norms, values and rules both written and unwritten about what is right or wrong to do, belonging to a particular group. Some of the most controversial issues about gender roles are women's roles and acceptance of LGBT people.

Colombia and Uganda are two countries with great cultural differences, among which we can find stereotypes about gender roles. While women throughout the history of Colombia have had difficulties in freely exercising their rights mainly because of the belief that the role of women should be only in the home, today the role of women is much more active and egalitarian in relation to the role of men, in general partner relationships are based on equality and respect for the opinion of others, a situation that is not the same in Uganda, A country in which there are strong stereotypes about how men should be and how women should be, the role of women should be one of submission and acceptance towards what men impose. Women in Uganda are treated as inferior beings and with less rights over themselves than men, the physical and psychological abuse towards them is a situation that is culturally accepted, according to World Health Organización (2017) more than 50% of women have suffered sexual abuse at some time in their lives, which shows the little importance given to the welfare of these due to the stereotypes that are held.

Continuing with the differences between these two cultures in terms of gender roles and stereotypes we can talk about the rights of the way we would like to dress, in Colombia the act of choosing clothes for women is a way to show who they are, what they like, is somehow the way they show their identity but in Uganda women are not given this right. There are stereotypes in which it is culturally frowned upon for a woman to wear "indecent "clothing and accessories which in other words means dressing differently from what men and some traditionalist women have established, as this leads to them being vulgar people.

Finally the cultures of Colombia and Uganda differ in how acceptance is given to non-heterosexual genders, while in Colombia every day advances in acceptance towards the LGBT community in Uganda being homosexual remains not only culturally frown as a sign of weakness and impurity but also illegal.

Women of Uganda

What is the culture of Uganda like?

The Republic of Uganda is a country located in East Africa, whose natives were hunters and gatherers, today it not only has a population of approximately 42 million of citizen but also has a culture full of diversity. Some of the most important aspects about their culture are their gastronomy, their music, their gender roles and attitudes around age.

The traditional music of Uganda is tribal music and one of the greatest curiosities about it is precisely that most of the music and related activities are often related to the celebration of festivals, marriage, initiations in the tribes, the festivals, harvesting among others. Generally the interpretation of this music is performed by members of tribes with the help of various African instruments.

For its part, the gastronomy of Uganda, like other African countries, has a great diversity of colors, flavors and textures that have nothing to envy to those of other countries worldwide recognized for their delicious meals. The elaboration of traditional and typical dishes this place is an important part of the culture of Uganda, one of the main foods in the preparation of many of its dishes is the "matoke" also known as guineo, this is used in different preparations such as boiled, mashed, baked and usually accompanied by delicious sauces.

On the other hand, in Uganda, as in other places that have a diverse and interesting culture, there are social aspects in which the inequality that exists in some African countries can be evidenced, problems such as gender roles in which equity It is not the main thing. In Uganda's culture, men generally expect their women to be submissive. It is common for men to be the ones who take full control of the homes and the decisions made there. Decisions about sexuality are also made only by men, thus being women left in second place.

Finally, an important aspect to take into account in order to understand Uganda's culture is the attitudes of Ugandans towards age. In Uganda, appreciation and care for the old people is not relevant. Older people in Uganda are generally neglected, their importance when making important decisions is not much, and the lack of medical care and the fulfillment of their rights is neglected.

Can be observed that Uganda is a country with a complex and interesting culture full of both positive and negative aspects that have been part of its identity and its people for many decades.
